Since 2016 the Fromagerie ARVANITI contributes actively to the protection of the environment,<\/p>\n
through its collaboration with Vorioelladiki Aeforia SA,<\/p>\n
for the collection, handling and recycling of the whey residue.<\/p>\n
The recycling plant is located just 7km from the dairy and produces Biogas every day.<\/p>\n
The produced biogas is a combustible material consisting of 58% methane and 14% carbon dioxide, and its combustion provides electricity of 1MWatt power to the country electric network.<\/p>\n
On a daily basis, the trucks of Vorioelladiki trucks load up to 40 tons<\/p>\n
of whey residue from the dairy and transport it to the unit for recycling.<\/p>\n
Upon processing, up to 6000 cubic meters of biogas are produced,<\/p>\n
which finally deliver up to 120 kWatt of electrical power on a daily basis.<\/p>\n
The residual liquid residue (70%) is used as a fertilizer.<\/p>\n
Greece is still far behind of the average of the European Union countries in<\/p>\n
recycling of the industrial waste. It is characteristic that in Greece<\/p>\n
only 5 biogas recycling companies operate, while in Germany some 10,000.<\/p>\n
Monopoly practices and delays in payments as the country electric company is sole buyer<\/p>\n
of electricity and also the difficult economic environment are the main problems<\/p>\n
that recycling professionals face.<\/p>\n
The Fromagerie ARVANITI, however, respecting the natural environment and promoting the use<\/p>\n
of alternative, clean energy sources, has set as a stable pillar of its operation<\/p>\n
