KATSALIS KOSTAS
ALEXANDRIA THESSALONIKIS
Kostas Katsalis deals with livestock farming since 2015 and comes from a livestock generation. He keeps his unit Alexandria, Imathia, just 35 min. away from the Fromageria ARVANITI, supplying it with fresh milk every day.
Kostas father has communicated his experience and knowledge about animal hygiene and dietary intervention to the ration to improve the production of livestock, as he has been for many years a veterinarian of livestock in the area of Alexandria.
In the unit, about 200 Murcia goats are bred, in a way that maximizes milk production and improves the next generations. The production of milk during the year does not show significant fluctuations, as coexist simultaneously milking goats and pregnant goats, which periodically alternate.
The animals graza in the plants alley clover, triticale, corn, barley malt and straw. The milking – which takes place all year twiceevery day, on about 6:30 am and 7:30 pm- takes almost one hour at a time.
Each lactating animal produces 5 liters of fresh milk every day. The 85 milking goats (on average) produce about 12 tons of milk per month, more than 140 tons per year. Production grows on the basis of generational improvement, and Kostas next goal is to receive 7 liters of milk from each animal, leading his unit to a production increase by 70 extra tons.
We are proud of our producers.
We are proud of Kostas.
