KYRIAKOPOULOU ANGELINA
GEFYRA, THESSALONIKI
Angelina Kyriakopoulou and her husband Thodoros have begun being engaged in livestock farming since 2006. At that time they were not related to the industry. In a decade, however, they have come a long way than many other livestock farmers facing difficulties, mistakes and challenges.
Angelina and Thodoros maintain the animal genetic improvement unit in Gefyra, Thessaloniki. The main objective of the unit is to maximize the utilization and continuous gene improvement of the generations of the livestock, through their planned observation with modern scientific methods.
At their unit, which belongs to the Farming Association of Diavata, 160 sheep of the Chios breed which are controlled by the Chalkidona Veterinary Service are bred.
The sheeps feed is only made with a controlled constant ration, suitable for maximum yield.
At the unit, a grouping of similar sheep is used to balance the overall yield.
Milking is done mechanically in the milking parlor twice a day from 6am to 8am and from 6pm to 8pm throughout the year.
The maximum utilization and improvement of the animals has led to the annual production of 160 sheep to produce about 60 tons of milk. In the winter months, the production per month is maximized, yielding about 10 tonnes.
The unit of Angelina and Thodoros is a model of modern livestock farming, but it has demanded and continues to require a lot of work, love and continuous engagement. At the moment, there is also 1 worker and 3 students practicing, as the unit is co-operating with the American Agricultural School, the Agricultural University of Athens, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Technical University of Thessaloniki.
We are proud of our producers.
We are proud of Angelina and Thodoros.
